As a club, GUAC compete at three major track events each season:
- Indoor Freshers Match (mid-October)
- Scottish Universities’ Indoors (early-February)
- Scottish Universities’ Outdoors (mid-April)
For these competitions we encourage as many club members as possible to either compete or spectate. The Freshers Match in particular provides an excellent opportunity for those new to competing to try it in a more relaxed environment. As 5x reigning Outdoors and 7x reigning Indoors Champions at SUCA competitions, it really is a team effort!
For more experienced athletes, we also organise trips down to BUCS Indoors (February) and BUCS Outdoors (May). This gives you the opportunity to test yourselves against the best university athletes in the UK with a number of GB internationalists often competing at these events.
Another key date is the Glasgow Taxis Cup in March where we compete against Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian for the varsity crown. As part of Scotland’s biggest one day student sporting festival, this event always provides a great atmosphere.
Finally, throughout the indoor and outdoor seasons, local clubs host a number of open graded events. This sees you seeded with athletes of a similar pace/ability and so is a perfect environment to push for a new pb. If you are interested in attending some open graded events, check the Scottish Athletics calendar and speak to one of our members for more information.
